Pleasant Valley was not a booming community. It was built with many closely spaced frame houses.  Most of them were heated by coal fires or by oil heaters or in some cases by open fireplaces.  With these conditions they posed quite a fire hazard.

     As many of you may know Pleasant Valley is located on Kittanning Pike.  The (Pike) for short got its name from originally being a turnpike with tolls back in the 1900's.
